In The Half-Light Century

To what do we make reference in the age of waste and carnage?
The future will hold little evidence of what’s discarded.
How to find a patch of earth that man has not defiled?
It seems that most by tinsel and illusion are beguiled.
To paint a verbal portrait of what the future holds
Is nonsense, we don’t know, and even so, it can’t be told.
So our artistic efforts in the half-light century
Will only speak of darkness to a world that finally sees.
